Reports reaching our news desk has it that the suit to recall the former Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha, as governor of Imo State, is set to come up by the 31th of October, barely days to the planned Governorship election in the state.
It can be recalled that the Supreme Court had sacked the Mbutu, Aboh Mbaise born former number six citizen of Nigeria, barely eight months after he was declared winner of the 2019 Governorship election in the state by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC.
The Supreme Court in its ruling, declared Senator Hope Uzodimma as the rightful winner of the election.
Ihedioha's move to review the ruling was dismissed by the Supreme Court but other suits, challenging the Supreme Court's ruling over the status of Uche Nwosu, son-in-law of former governor Rochas Okorocha and how it relates to Governor Hope Uzodimma as the rightful candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC in that election, have since found their way to the court.
Despite delays to hear the matter, if our sources are anything to go by, it is reported that the Supreme Court is set to rule on the matter, determining Uzodimma's status as governor of Imo State, or returning Ihedioha to the same seat he was removed from four years ago.
Should the case go in favour of Ihedioha, the November 11th Governorship election in Imo State would not hold as he would be returned to continue from where he stopped when he was removed.
Presently, all the players involved in the matter including former governors of the state for or against the duo, as said to be in Abuja flexing their weight to ensure the ruling goes their way.
While many of Ihedioha's supporters and political allies have since dumped the Peoples Democratic Party PDP and their governorship candidate, Senator Samuel Anyanwu (Samdaddy), and embraced Uzodimma, Ihedioha has yet to break his silence on whatever moves he would be making in his political future.
