The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State has dismissed allegations that Governor Hope Uzodinma has financially starved the party for an extended period.
According to the party’s leadership, the allegations stem from certain quarters and individuals who claim to have insider knowledge suggesting internal discord within the party. These claims further allege that the state leadership is at odds with the governor due to his purported neglect of the party following the recently concluded Local Government elections.
In response, the APC State leadership, through its Publicity Secretary, Cajetan Duke, refuted these allegations in a press statement, describing them as baseless rumors fabricated by detractors envious of the party’s success in the Local Government elections.
Duke stated:
> “The attention of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Imo State chapter has been drawn to an article making rounds the social media platforms with the title *‘Imo APC is in Distress; State Exco Members Cry out for Help, Accuse Governor of Total Neglect.’”
He emphasized that the claims were unfounded and a deliberate attempt by mischief-makers to tarnish the reputation of the party and undermine the governor’s credibility. He reassured members and supporters that the APC in Imo State remains robust and proactive in fulfilling its responsibilities.
Duke added:
> “The just concluded Local Government elections is a clear pointer to what we term as an incontrovertible truth that Imo APC is functional and healthy.”
He also addressed the governor's role in the party’s operations, stating:
> “We completely align ourselves with the position of the writer on non-financial commitments or involvement of the Governor to the party day-to-day activities. We have continued to pride ourselves that our Governor has remained faithful and committed to his oath of office not to allow his personal interest to override his constitutional mandate to do the right thing.
> It is also important to state to the benefit of uninformed writers that the Governor or state Government is not one of the sources of funding for our party.”
The party spokesperson referenced the APC Constitution, stating that Article 22 A of the amended 2022 Constitution outlines the sources of party funding:
> “The party shall derive funds from: membership dues, subscription fees, levies on members, proceeds from investment, donations and fundraising, gifts and grants, borrowing as approved by the National Executive Committee, and any other lawful means.”
Cajetan Duke concluded by urging party members and supporters to disregard the article and its claims, labeling it a product of mischief and malice.
