The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the tragic death of Bishop Shina Olaribigbe, founder of Rapture Empowerment International in Osogbo, Osun State.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, Bishop Olaribigbe was fatally stabbed while attempting to mediate in a domestic dispute between a couple.
Opalola explained that the estranged husband suspected the pastor of having an affair with his wife. She said:
“The couple were not living together, though they were not legally separated.
“The pastor had been intervening in their quarrels, and on this occasion, he was at the wife’s house when the estranged husband arrived.
“We were told that the husband stabbed the pastor multiple times, killing him.
“There is suspicion that the husband believed the pastor was having an affair with his wife.”
Reports indicate that the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday.
A source, who wished to remain anonymous, disclosed that the wife served as an interpreter at Olaribigbe’s church, located in the BCGA area of Osogbo. The couple, though not officially divorced, reportedly had frequent altercations that led to their separation.
Bishop Olaribigbe had visited the wife, who was said to be ill, when the estranged husband arrived unexpectedly.
“Enraged by the situation, the husband allegedly attacked Olaribigbe.
“A heated argument ensued, and in a fit of anger, the man took a knife and stabbed the pastor in the chest. Olaribigbe died on the spot,” the source close to the church revealed.
Following the incident, the police arrested the couple and detained them at the Dugbe Division in Osogbo.
The remains of Bishop Olaribigbe have been deposited at the morgue of the University of Osun Teaching Hospital (UNIOSUNTH), Osogbo.
