The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Interim Management Committee, recognised by the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, has reaffirmed and rectified the appointment of Comr. Stephen Daberechi Akuchie as IMC Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Imo State Chapter.
The appointment was rectified by the office of the South-East Representative, Comr. Ifeanyi Uzoh, who has been charged with the responsibility of unifying youths across the South-East states and ensuring a transparent election is conducted.
It is worthy of note that on 6th October 2025, all factions of the National Youth Council of Nigeria were dissolved due to the withdrawal of certificate of registration by the CAC. Following this, Barr. Buhari Ibrahim Shebu, representing the Corporate Affairs Commission, was appointed as Chairman of the IMC, while Ms. Kehinde Charity Awoioola, representing the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, was appointed Secretary of the IMC.
Comr. Stephen Daberechi Akuchie’s appointment will last for a period of six months, during which his primary responsibility is to unite the NYCN Imo State Chapter and conduct a credible election.
Stakeholders have welcomed the IMC’s decision, expressing confidence that Comr. Akuchie’s leadership will bring stability and foster inclusiveness among youth groups in Imo State. They noted that his experience and grassroots connection positioned him to effectively reconcile aggrieved parties and rebuild trust within the council. The stakeholders commended the Honourable Minister for youth development Hon. Ayodele Olawande Wisdom and the cooperate affairs commission for their efforts in restoring the lost glory of the National Youth Council of Nigeria.
The IMC further urged all youth stakeholders in Imo State to cooperate with the new leadership and support the unification process. It emphasized that the success of the six-month mandate depends on collective effort, discipline, and commitment to the ideals of the National Youth Council of Nigeria.
