Your Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi
Greetings to you from a heart as pure as gold, and from a soul that has endured the weight of Nigeria’s struggles for over four agonizing decades+. I write to you not as an obedient neither party loyalist, nor as a fellow traveler in political ambition, but first as a fellow Nigerian and as an Igbo son bound to you by the unbreakable thread of blood and shared destiny.
Sir, I have watched with a heavy heart as the intricate machinery of political maneuvering seeks once again to unravel what little remains of credibility in our opposition. The reports of renewed overtures to former President Goodluck Jonathan, been screened by factional PDP, drawing him into a race that could reduce his legacy to a footnote in the ambitions of others, fill many of us with dread. It appears the opposition has been mesmerized, and I implore you—play the superior, statesmanlike game. Outmaneuver this calculated scheme by declining to enter this contest designed to fracture us further.
Your Excellency, it is no secret that you are the singular target of this strategy. The architects of division know that with the opposition split three ways—between yourself, Atiku Abubakar, and now a potential Jonathan candidacy—the path for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to retain power becomes unobstructed. In 2023, the combined votes of Atiku, yourself, and Kwankwaso exceeded 15 million, nearly double Tinubu’s tally. That arithmetic was undone by division. Please I beg you, do not let history repeat itself.
I humbly beg you again to consider the wisdom of patience and timing. Wait until 2031. By then, the weight of age will have naturally retired Atiku from the race, and the lingering goodwill around President Jonathan will have been consumed by this current caricature of ambition. By that time, even the birds in the sky will be crying out for fresh, untainted leadership, having endured the harsh realities of these present times. A four-year single-term pledge you have offered would resonate with greater moral force if unencumbered by the perception of a crowded, ego-driven field.
Mr. Obi, you represent more than a candidacy; you embody the emotional and generational energy that millions of Nigerians cling to as their last hope. The Obidient movement—youths, professionals, diaspora, and the weary middle class—see in you a rejection of the old order of hunger, insecurity, and systemic failure. To scatter that mandate now would be to betray the trust of those who believe you are the bridge to a new Nigeria.
I have read of your principled stance against bad governance, not against individuals. Nigeria today suffers from fewer than 10% health insurance coverage, unpaid teachers, and a broken education system. You implemented free education and prompt teacher pay in Anambra. That is the kind of pragmatic, people-centered leadership we desperately need, but it requires a united platform to be realized.
The opposition’s recent fragmentation is a wound to the nation. You and Kwankwaso have exited the ADC coalition over internal divisions and legal wrangles, and as a political analyst, now warn that the “single candidate” agreement is on life support. If we enter 2027 fractured, we hand victory to the incumbency on a platter. The consequences will not be borne by politicians, but by ordinary Nigerians whose garri prices and security hang in the balance.
Sir, I see you as the only remaining hope of our dying state. Your brand as a principled alternative is built on integrity, sacrifice, and a refusal to play the mercenary politics that has consumed others. Do not let that legacy be diluted in a race designed to divide and weaken. Nigeria cannot afford another cycle of “one man’s ambition placed above a country’s future”.

The survival of our nation may depend on the courage of leaders who know when to advance, and when to hold back for the greater good.
