Engr. Uche Banna, born in Port Harcourt, Rivers State has always felt an indissoluble and profound connection to his hometown, Ezeagu Amaeze Obibiezena in Owerri North LGA of Imo State. He studied Electrical/Electronics Engineering and later obtained a Master’s in Project Management, with multifarious certifications in Information Technology. His foundational educational odyssey instilled in him the values of discipline, hard work, and pragmatic problem-solving.
Ostensibly, Uche Banna's political journey is not a recent development. With over 23 years of dedicated and indefatigable service to partisan politics and community service, he developed himself so consummately by engaging in grassroots mobilization from 2003 to 2025. By 2009, he had taken on the preeminent role of Chairman of the PDP Contact and Mobilization Subcommittee for the Owerri North LGA Council Elections. He later served as the distinguished Executive Secretary of the PDP Owerri North LGA Campaign Council for the 2019 and 2023 general elections. Between 2011 and 2020, he coordinated and managed the most formidable Owerri North LGA campaign formations of various PDP senatorial and gubernatorial candidates, as well as handled some state directorates for some gubernatorial aspirants in the paramount areas of strategy, data management, and finance. His involvement in the PDP Imo State Campaign Council across five epochal elections—2007, 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2023—has solidified his sterling reputation and trust among party leaders and members. Currently, he is a dedicated and exemplary member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, collaborating with His Excellency, Sen. Hope Uzodimma’s superlative Shared Prosperity administration to foster monumental political development in his community and Owerri North LGA at large.
The people of Owerri North recognize him because he has always been there for them in various facets of sociocultural engagement. As Secretary General and later the uncommon President General of the Obibiezena Development Union(ODU) Worldwide from 2010 to 2021, he played a pivotal role in attracting invaluable projects from diaspora affiliates and political contacts to his community, resolving protracted disputes among kinsmen, especially the women unification project, and advocating for essential infrastructure. His unwavering commitment to youth development is evident through his roles as Imo State Patron of the Boys Brigade, esteemed House Patron of John F. Kennedy International Secondary School and others, and State Deputy Director of the Imo State Scout Council.
His involvement with Lions Club International, the Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria, and other voluntary organisations clearly shows his benevolent commitment to health, welfare, and helping those in need—not just through words, but through transformative action.
Consequently, his engineering training goes beyond the office; it is all about serving communities and deploying pro bono expertise where needed. His erudite academic work on building construction, intercom systems, and electrical repairs are practical resources he has used to empower local artisans and contractors. As a consummate registered engineer with COREN and a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, he has an unparalleled grasp of budgets, roads, and projects. He knows how to ask the most incisive questions in the House to ensure that government funds truly benefit the people. During his time as DG/CEO of the Imo State Facilities Management Agency and Board Member of IMSUBEB in 2019, he gained invaluable insights into how government systems operate from the inside. Now, he is eager to reform/enhance them from the legislative platform.
Commendably, Engr. Uche Banna is also a visionary businessman who creates jobs. Since 2001, he has been at the helm of the family haulage business, handling logistics and property management. Through Kameni Konsult Limited, which he founded in 2008, he offers unparalleled engineering and environmental solutions. As the Country Representative for Applied Consulting Limited, UK, since 2009, he has played a cardinal role in connecting Nigerian businesses with international partners. His leadership at Morflex ICT W.A. as General Manager from 2006 to 2010 saw him develop cutting-edge school portals and collaborate with various banks on technology initiatives. These are not just titles; they reflect his peerless ability to attract investment, leverage technology, and create job opportunities for our youth.
Institutionally, he has made outstanding contributions to government. He chaired the Owerri North LGA Project Implementation Committee and the Transition Subcommittee on ICT from 2009 to 2010. In 2010, he oversaw the Imo State Environmental Transformation Commission in Owerri North.
As a sports enthusiast, he served on the Board of the Imo State Football Association for 11 years, using sports as a means to engage young people and foster peace. All these roles highlight one paramount point: he knows how to turn plans into tangible results.
He stands firmly for fairness and loyalty to his party. Back in 2005, he had his sights set on running for the 2007 House of Assembly seat but graciously stepped aside when the party decided to zone the ticket to the Uratta bloc. Fast forward to 2011, he aspired for the same seat again, but the incumbent was returned against the zoning understanding. However, the general electoral outcome gave victory to another party, which saw the seat returned to the OAU/Obibiezena bloc. Since then, the seat has rotated among the Alaenyi bloc, Emekuku/Emii bloc, and presently the Uratta bloc. By 2027, it is only proper that it returns to the OAU/Obibiezena bloc. Within that bloc, Obibiezena Ward should be prioritized, as OAU Ward had its turn last time. This is not only fairness but equity and justice meeting consummate competence. This is not just about him; it is about fairness and honoring our commitments to one another.
So, why does he want to serve? Because Owerri North deserves a stalwart advocate. Most of our roads are in disrepair, our youth are in need of jobs, there is a huge clamour for improved neighbourhood security, and our communities often feel overlooked. Many constituents express that they do not hear from their representatives after elections. Uche Banna aims to be the vital and indispensable link between the villages and the government. He connects seasoned leaders with the new generation. With friendships that span across party lines, connections through private sector exposure, and affiliation with various sociocultural and political organizations, he is well-positioned to lobby and advocate for the needs of the LGA, especially in the areas of SME support for women, educational infrastructure, and Owerri North's political unity.
Courageously, in the House, he plans to tackle real issues head-on. He will advocate for better oversight to ensure projects are completed effectively and agencies conform with expected practice. He will support quintessential legislation that brings essential services like water, schools, health centers, and markets to our communities. His experience as a Project Inspector for Rural Electrification Agency(REA) during his NYSC in Delta State, his role as a Service Engineer with an oil and gas servicing company, and his experience in equipment leasing have equipped him with insights into how energy, infrastructure, and business can truly benefit the people.
As a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Diplomacy and Management, he understands how to collaborate with others to bring respect and tangible results to Owerri North.
