The apex Igbo socio cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has warmly commended the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and the Prof. Humphrey Nwosu Centre for Democracy and Human Rights for the successful organization of the maiden Annual Memorial Lecture held in Abuja in honour of the late Professor Humphrey Nwosu.
This was made known through a statement made available to newsmen by Dr. Ezechi Chukwu,
National Publicity Secretary,
Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.
The Ohanaeze delegation to the event was led by the Deputy President-General, Prince Okey Nwadinobi, on behalf of the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Senator John Azuta Mbata. The National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Ezechi Chukwu, was also in attendance.
"Ohanaeze joins eminent Nigerians in celebrating the enduring legacy of Professor Humphrey Nwosu, an illustrious son of Igboland and one of Nigeria's foremost democratic icons. His courage, integrity, patriotism and unwavering commitment to the people's mandate during the historic June 12, 1993 presidential election remain a shining reference point in Nigeria's democratic journey.
"Professor Nwosu's principled leadership in the face of enormous pressure demonstrated that strong institutions are built by men and women of character who place national interest above personal considerations. His contributions continue to inspire the quest for electoral integrity, justice, accountability and credible governance in Nigeria."
Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide believes that honouring distinguished Nigerians such as Professor Nwosu is essential for preserving the values of transparency, fairness, national unity and democratic accountability which he so courageously defended.
The apex Igbo body further reiterated its commitment to supporting initiatives that advance the collective good of Ndigbo, strengthen democratic institutions, promote equity and justice, and deepen national cohesion.
