The Director of Strategic Communication for the SamJones Campaign Organisation and a close ally of Ikenge Ugochinyere who is the Campaign Director of the SamJones Campaign, Mr. Onwuasoanya FCC Jones, has resigned his position with the Governorship ambition of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP in Imo State, and National Secretary of the party, Senator Samuel Anyanwu Samdaddy.
FCC Jones, in an article captioned "CALLING TIME ON PARTISANSHIP" which reads in full below, stated his reasons for stepping away from the SamJones Campaign;
"The ice was finally broken for me, when a mentor I hold in very high esteem asked me this question; "Would you like to be remembered as the one who wrote the most caustic articles against opponents of your principals and fantastic articles in promotion of your principals or an artiste who created timeless classics and a writer who wrote the truth and not against individuals or political parties?" I definitely prefer the later legacy.
"Nothing demeans an intellectual or an aspiring intellectual than being placed in a situation where his competence is questioned or his ego bruised. There is no fault in going to war for someone, but you must only take a bullet or more for the same people who can do the same for you. Deception is a tool in politics as it is in war, but you must only use it against rivals, not lieutenants.
"A man who claims to be a prisoner of his conscience must always be guided by truth and empirical evidence. Not by emotions or such carnality. I pray God to keep me on the path of truth and good conscience, always.
"No doubt, Nigerian politics has become very toxic and you can't afford not to be seen as silly if you choose to advance one partisan interest against the other, because they are all "six and half a dozen". No difference.
"Today, after due consultation with my conscience and my family, I choose to inform everyone who deserves to know, and that definitely includes you, that I shall drop the pen of partisanship and pick up, once again, the ink of patriotism.
"I will cease to function, on the immediate, as the Director of Strategic Communication of the SamJones Campaign Organisation, with no ill feelings retained, but for the good of our State and the best of my mental health.
"The robe of partisanship robs anyone of the right to be truthful and selfless, but the trueness of patriotism gives you the room to promote what benefits the society rather than what benefits an individual or a particular group. I choose, from this day, the robe of patriotism. And I pray that God helps me to keep it.
"I shall not be found missing in the discussion of issues that affect my State, my dear Igbo land and our dear country. However, if there must be any interest, vested, it shall be the interest of truth and the benefit of the people. I shall not always hold opinions that are popular, but I shall hold opinions that are true and beneficial, in the long run.
"I do not wish anyone of the governorship candidates anything special, but to Imo people, I wish all the best, and may our will prevail and our choice be the best, not just for us, but our children.
