Owerri, Imo State — Owerri Zone United has issued a strong and comprehensive communiqué applauding recent political developments in Imo State, particularly the affirmation of the Charter of Equity as the guiding principle for power rotation across the state’s senatorial zones.
In the statement released by its Publicity Secretary, Hon. Barr. Kingsley Ononuju (Ekwedashike), the group described the resolution of the Imo State Council of Elders as both historic and pivotal to the sustenance of fairness, unity, and political stability in the state.
The group expressed profound appreciation to the Council of Elders, led by HRH Eze (Dr.) Cletus Ilomuanya (CON), for what it termed a courageous and timely decision to uphold its statutory responsibility in promoting good governance and safeguarding the collective interest of Ndi Imo. According to the communiqué, the Council’s endorsement of the Charter of Equity further strengthens the moral and institutional framework guiding the equitable rotation of political power.
Owerri Zone United particularly welcomed the Council’s clear position that the governorship of Imo State is expected to rotate to Owerri Zone following the completion of Governor Hope Uzodimma’s tenure in 2027/2028. The group noted that this affirmation reinforces long-standing expectations and aligns with the principles of justice and inclusiveness.
The communiqué also paid glowing tribute to Governor Hope Uzodimma, whom it described as the “father of the Imo Charter of Equity,” commending his leadership and commitment to entrenching a system that fosters balance and cohesion among the state’s diverse political blocs. The group further acknowledged the role of the Imo State House of Assembly in giving legal backing to the Charter, a move it said ensures its credibility, legitimacy, and long-term sustainability.
In recognizing broader stakeholder contributions, Owerri Zone United extended appreciation to the people of Imo State for their continued support of the current administration, noting that such cooperation has contributed to relative political stability, infrastructural development, and economic progress.
The group also highlighted the efforts of key political and socio-cultural leaders within Owerri Zone, including the Owerri Zone Political Leaders Forum (OZOPOLF) and prominent figures such as Prince Charls Amadi (Charlvon), Prince Alex Mbata, and Haritex, as well as the Imo Harmony Group led by Captain Emmanuel Ihenacho and Ambassador Kema Chikwe. These individuals and groups were commended for their roles in fostering unity, coordination, and strategic advocacy for the Owerri Zone agenda.
Special recognition was equally given to the clergy and traditional rulers across Imo State for their spiritual support, moral guidance, and consistent calls for peace, justice, and equity—factors the group credited as instrumental in achieving the current milestone.
Reaffirming its stance, Owerri Zone United declared that the zone remains united, focused, and resolute in its pursuit of the full realization of the Charter of Equity. The group called on all stakeholders across the state to continue supporting the framework, describing it as a viable pathway to fairness, inclusion, and lasting peace.
